Banking should be simple, intuitive, and, most importantly, user-friendly. When I first interacted with the City Union Bank (CUB) mobile app, I saw potential, but it was hidden under layers of a dated interface and usability issues. As a passionate UI/UX designer, I took on the challenge of redesigning the CUB app, aiming to elevate the user experience and create a more seamless, engaging, and functional interface.

The existing CUB app's login screen was a challenge for users on multiple fronts:

😕 Visual Clutter: The interface was a busy mix of colors, shapes, and icons, making it hard for users to focus on their primary tasks.

🧐 Navigation Woes: Users couldn’t easily switch between Mobile Banking and Net Banking. It felt like a maze with no clear way out.

😒 Inconsistent Visual Hierarchy: Important actions were buried, with no clear guide to what users should do next.

😓 Crowded Quick Actions: The Quick Actions section was a jumbled mess, with little thought given to what users actually needed.

I stripped down the visual clutter to its bare essentials, focusing on a clean and modern aesthetic. The vibrant pink header and simplified typography provide a fresh, inviting entry point into the app.

I introduced clear tabs for "Mobile Banking" and "Net Banking," making it easier for users to navigate between these core services. Now, users can switch modes with a single tap, without any confusion.

The redesigned screen prioritizes key actions like login and MPIN management, guiding users with bold buttons and straightforward labels. No more hunting around—what you need is right in front of you.

The Quick Actions section was reimagined to focus on the most important features: UPI, Scan QR, and Ask Lakshmi (AI support robot). These are the tools users need most, and now they’re front and center, with logical groupings that just make sense.

Started with a quick sketch on paper to map out the essentials, then brought it to life digitally. It's amazing to see the idea evolve from rough lines to a polished wireframe!

This redesign is more than just a visual refresh—it’s a rethinking of the entire user experience. By focusing on clarity, simplicity, and user-centric design, I transformed the login screen of the CUB app from a confusing maze into a streamlined, intuitive tool that users will actually enjoy using.

I conducted user testing with 4 participants and gathered insightful feedback that shaped the redesign of the CUB mBank Plus app’s login screen.

75% of participants found the old login screen somewhat difficult to navigate.

One participant mentioned, "The placement and alignment of the Mobile Banking and Net Banking options should be adjusted. Instead of keeping them at the top right corner, they could be placed below 'Let's get started' so users can immediately select their preferred banking type."

When asked about the clarity of elements, participants noted that "The buttons are not center-aligned and felt slightly off to the right. The overall design could be improved."

Another common issue was that while switching between Net Banking and Mobile Banking, the elements felt "unseen."

50% of participants noticed inconsistencies, with one stating, "It was too difficult to choose elements as it looks clumsy."

75% found the original login screen to be very poor in terms of intuitiveness, and the overall experience was rated as poor or somewhat okay.

Participants rated the redesigned screen highly, with ratings of 4 and 5 out of 5 for ease of switching between mobile Banking and Net Banking, and the intuitiveness of using the quick actions/buttons.

When asked why they preferred the redesigned screen, participants highlighted that "the new screen is more aligned, user-friendly, and gets straight to the point. From a user's perspective, the new design is more convenient for quicker access, offers a one-hand experience, and provides a professional, clutter-free interface."

Another participant commented, "I prefer the selected screen because it has a clearer layout, better-organized elements, and more intuitive navigation, making it easier to understand and use."

This user testing experience taught me the importance of intuitive design and clear layout in enhancing user satisfaction. I learned that even small adjustments, like the placement of key elements, can significantly impact usability. 

The feedback highlighted the value of aligning design with user expectations, ensuring that the interface feels natural and easy to navigate. Moving forward, I will prioritize user-centered design and continue iterating based on direct user input to create seamless and engaging experiences.

This project was a chance to apply my skills in a real-world context, solving practical problems and making a meaningful impact on the user experience. The end result is not just a better app, but a demonstration of how thoughtful design can turn something old and outdated into something fresh and engaging.
